Every parent remembers their kids' significant "firsts". First steps, first words, first tooth, first days of school. Those things are etched into my mind and burned deep into my heart as a mother. This weekend, Evan had another first: his first Alabama football game. Maybe not all mothers get sentimental over such a milestone but I know my Bama girls out there can feel me on this one. I remember Tyler's first Bama game, and he was about the same age as Evan, and Tyler has been to several since then with me but Evan hasn't ever been very interested in going in and sitting through the game; he just likes to tailgate and play at the Quad then let my mom take him back to her house while we go to the stadium. This season, he proclaimed his anticipation for finally going into the stadium. With home game tickets, he and Tyler argued all week over who mommy would take to the first home game of the season. They both wanted to go. This put me in a bad spot only having 2 tix. So I did what any smart, rational woman would do. I made them flip a coin.
Evan won.
Tyler will get to go with me next Saturday, but here is a video of Evan toward the end of the game, we were about to kick-off again, he wanted me to record that part of the game but I was trying to make him understand I wanted to get HIM! He hung in for the entire game, too. We had nachos and Coke and we cheered and sang the fight song and Sweet Home Alabama more times than I can say. I tried to keep him informed about the actual game; what "down" it was and how much further we or Tulane had to go, when someone had to kick it back to the other team, etc. He knew a touchdown when he saw one, though! He wanted to know when we were defense so he could be loud. And he was. He made his mom proud. At one point I and everyone around me was screaming over something good and he was, too, then said, "I don't know what's going on, but if you are happy and yelling, so am I."
You know what? That says a lot about how our kids see us, doesn't it? If we are happy and yelling, they will be, too. ROLL TIDE.

What a proud, proud day. This is a milestone that as parents, we long for. What a wonderful gift we are giving our children. I remember fondly Keith and Zack's first game. Keith endured it like a true trooper. Zack, um, not so much. At one point (in the 2nd quarter, mind you) he was crying and saying, "It's hoooootttttt....Daddy, make the sun go away." In his elevated (screaming) "firm" voice Shawn said (shouted), "Zackery John, if I could make the sun move, do you think that we'd be losing this game?" Priceless. Needless to say, it was another season until we took them back. Now they love it. Griffin hasn't experienced his first game yet. We're not that crazy. Glad he loved it. GLAD WE WON! ROLL TIDE!

OMG, now that I watched the clip, I am laughing hysterically. It starts off so sweet, and Evan is PRECIOUS throughout. This needs to be on YouTube or something, bc YOU are HI-LARIOUS. You are so sweet and proud, asking if he likes it, admiring his clothes. Then, it gets good. My favorite line has to be when your voice changed to the "I mean business" tone and you say, "EVAN...I'm gettin you." I LOVE IT! I can SO see me doing that! And like a true Bama fan, Ole' Evan never stops shaking his pom pom. RTR! Seriously, this video is wonderful.

LOL! Amy, could you tell he was trying to get me to video the actual kickoff when I was TRYING to just get him cheering?? And yes the longer the game wore on so did my patients--our seats are tiny little buckets and I kept having to get up b/c circulation to my feet was GONE and I was so uncomfortable and oh yeah, TIRED! Glad you got a kick out of that though!
PRICELESS!!! That will be another memory that is sketched in your mind forever, that is a first that I would never forget either. I am glad that he had a blast and I know you loved it too.
Awww, Steffi! This video is priceless! Looks like y'all had a fantastic time!
Also love the photo of the two of you!
Take care!
